Meet Dr. John I. Esterkyn
John I. Esterkyn, DDS, MS
As an orthodontist, I love creating beautiful smiles and the improved self esteem and confidence that a great smile brings to my patients! I also enjoy the opportunity to be a positive influence in the life of each and every patient who visits us.
I attended the University of the Pacific School of Dentistry in San Francisco, where I received my doctorate in 1982. After practicing dentistry for two years, I decided to specialize in orthodontics. I attended Georgetown University School of Dentistry in Washington D.C. and earned a Master of Science degree in orthodontics.
I always stay on the cutting edge of advances in orthodontic treatment by taking over fifty hours of continuing education each year. I have embraced change by adapting early to new innovations in orthodontics. I was one of the first orthodontists to become certified by Invisalign in 2000 after completing a special training by Align Technology, the makers of Invisalign aligners. I am also involved in indirect-bonding procedures to provide more comfortable placement of braces for my patients as well as the new Damon-style self-ligating braces that shorten treatment time and require fewer adjustments.
In the Practice
I have been practicing in the east county area since 1986, and am blessed to give treatment to such a caring and wonderful community! My team and I make every effort to treat all who enter our office as we would like to be treated - in a warm, fun, caring environment. Our desire is to make every patient feel like part of our extended family.
Our team is a group of experienced professionals, each specializing in different aspects of our practice. We all take pride in our job, recognizing the important role we play in making sure that each patient has an enjoyable orthodontic experience. We all promise to give our very best and we will work with you and your family to achieve a beautiful smile and an enjoyable experience.
Our practice is involved in many important causes in our community including the support of locally organized boys and girls baseball, softball and soccer teams. We also support many of our patients that participate in school- and church-sponsored activities as well as the local branch of the Leukemia Society and the American Heart Association.
I am a native Californian and was raised in Sacramento. My wife, Sarah, and I have two sons named Nathan and Jakob. When I am not creating beautiful smiles, I enjoy spending time with my wonderful family. We do all kinds of outdoor activities together, including cycling, gardening, skiing, and traveling. I am also an avid baseball fan!
